Cisco Systems GLC-EX-SMD SFP Transceiver Module

The Cisco GLC-EX-SMD SFP transceiver module provides 1000BASE-EX Gigabit Ethernet connectivity over single-mode fiber, enabling long-distance links between network devices in campus backbones, metropolitan networks, and enterprise WANs. It is designed for use in Cisco switches and routers with SFP ports and uses a 1310 nm wavelength over single-mode fiber, with an LC duplex connector and a maximum reach of up to 40 km for 1 Gbps links. The form factor is Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP), and the module supports Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM) to monitor optical output and link health in real time. Common replacements in Cisco deployments include the GLC-LH-SMD, GLC-LX-SM-R, and GLC-ZX-SM, offering similar long-haul 1000BASE functionality for extending fiber connectivity between devices in enterprise or service-provider networks.
