Advantech ADAM-4520 RS-232 to RS-422 and RS-485 Isolated Serial Converter
Advantech ADAM-4520 RS-232 to RS-422 and RS-485 Isolated Serial Converter
Description:
Advantech ADAM-4520 is an isolated RS-232 to RS-422/RS-485 converter that galvanically isolates the RS-232 host interface from the RS-422/RS-485 network by up to 3000 VDC. On the RS-232 side it provides TXD, RXD, RTS, and GND; the RS-422/RS-485 side uses differential signaling with lines for transmission and reception, with RTS used for RS-485 direction control. Data format and baud rate are set via built-in DIP switches (SW1 for data format, SW2 for baud rate), and the device uses a 4.9152 MHz oscillator for timing. The unit employs opto-coupled isolation between sides and is CE-marked. Typical applications include linking legacy RS-232 instruments to RS-422/RS-485 field buses in industrial automation, data acquisition, and process control environments where isolation and long-distance serial communication are required.
