Description:

The Allen-Bradley 1746-HSCE High Speed Counter Encoder is a single-channel SLC 500 module that counts encoder pulses at high speed and reports the count back to the PLC. It accepts one count input (5 V, 12 V, or 24 V DC) and provides four outputs rated for 5/12/24 V DC, enabling direct drive or logic signaling from a high-speed encoder. Configured for Range, Rate, or Sequencer modes, it supports up to 50 kHz maximum input frequency in range/Sequencer modes and 32 kHz in rate mode, with module update times of about 1.8 ms (Sequencer), 3.9 ms (Range), and around 70 ms plus rate period (Rate). The HSCE also provides encoder power through the module (commonly via a +12 V DC supply at the encoder input terminal), enabling a compact single-cable hookup to incremental encoders. This module is part of Rockwell Automation's SLC 500 High Speed Counter family; however, Rockwell noted the SLC High Speed Counter modules were being discontinued as of September 30, 2024.
