Description:

The Allen-Bradley 1746-HSCE2 High Speed Counter Module is a four-channel SLC 500 counter card that counts high-speed encoder pulses with its own microprocessor and I/O, reducing the load on the PLC CPU. It occupies a single 1746 backplane slot in an SLC 500 chassis and provides four counter input channels with associated signaling through four outputs. The module supports input configurations suitable for rapid pulse counting, including encoder-type signals, and is commonly used for position, speed, and event counting on conveyors and other motion-related applications. It supports high input frequencies up to about 50 kHz per channel, with specialized modes offering higher rates approaching 100 kHz. Input signals typically use standard 5–24 V DC logic levels, and the backplane power draw is specified at 5 V with up to 250 mA. Configuration and monitoring are done through RSLogix 500 in typical SLC 500 deployments. Rockwell Automation literature describes the HSCE2 as a multi-channel high-speed counter with its own processor and I/O, designed to react to high-speed inputs without taxing the controller, making it suitable for reliable, high-speed counting in automation tasks.
