Allen-Bradley 1746-IA16 16-Channel Analog Input Module

The Allen-Bradley 1746-IA16 is a 16-channel AC digital input module for the SLC 500 family, designed to read field devices that operate on standard line voltage and translate them into a digital signal for the PLC. Each of the 16 inputs accepts 85–132 VAC signals at 50/60 Hz, making it suitable for wiring pushbuttons, limit switches, sensors, and other AC-powered field devices directly to the SLC 500 backplane. The module draws a backplane current load of about 85 mA at 5 V, aligning with typical SLC 500 I/O backplane requirements. As part of the 1746 I/O ecosystem, the IA16 communicates with the CPU via the standard I/O image table, providing straightforward wiring, diagnostics, and data interaction for discrete input monitoring in applications such as machine start/stop signaling, door or guard status, and general process sensing in AC control circuits.
