Allen-Bradley 1746-NT8 Thermocouple Input Module
Allen-Bradley 1746-NT8 Thermocouple Input Module
Description:
The Allen-Bradley 1746-NT8 Thermocouple Input Module is an eight-channel thermocouple/millivolt analog input card for the SLC 500 family that plugs into a 1746 backplane rack. It accepts thermocouple or millivolt signals on eight input channels (0–7) and supports multiple thermocouple types, including J, K, T, B, E, R, S, and N, making it suitable for a wide range of temperature-monitoring applications. Two cold-junction compensation (CJC) sensor connections are provided (CJC A+ / A- and CJC B+ / B-), enabling accurate temperature readings by compensating the thermocouple junction temperature. For millivolt signaling, the input ranges cover -50 to +50 mV and -100 to +100 mV, allowing direct scaling of small sensor voltages. Each channel reports its data and status via a channel data/status mechanism, and the module supports per-channel configuration and diagnostics to help identify faults or wiring issues. As part of the SLC 500 I/O ecosystem, the NT8 communicates over the 1746 backplane to the processor, enabling real-time temperature data integration into control logic, PID loops, or data logging. This module is commonly used in process temperature monitoring, energy management, and applications where robust, isolated thermocouple or millivolt inputs are required from multiple sensors.
