Allen-Bradley 1747-AIC Isolated Link Coupler
Allen-Bradley 1747-AIC Isolated Link Coupler
Description:
The Allen-Bradley 1747-AIC Isolated Link Coupler is a DH-485 network interface for the SLC 500 family that provides galvanic isolation between the DH-485 communications bus and the attached SLC 500 controller. It is used to connect SLC 500 devices to a DH-485 network, protecting both the controller and peripheral devices with up to 1500 V DC isolation between the communication cable and the SLC 500 processor. The coupler requires a 24 V DC power supply to power the unit and any connected DH-485 peripherals. Catalog number 1747-AIC, this module is designed for SLC 500 modular hardware configurations and serves as the isolated bridge on the DH-485 segment. Rockwell Automation discontinued the 1747-AIC as of January 31, 2017, so current availability is limited to remaining stock or used units. Common applications include linking SLC 500 CPUs (such as 5/xx models) with DH-485 devices like HMIs or other DH-485 peripherals, enabling programming, monitoring, and data exchange while maintaining network isolation. This makes the 1747-AIC a legacy but historically important option for maintaining compatibility within older SLC 500 installations that rely on DH-485 communications.
