Description:

Allen-Bradley 1747-ASB Remote I/O Adapter Module is the SLC 500 gateway that sits in slot 0 of a 1746 remote chassis and acts as a slave on the Remote I/O (RIO) link, mapping the I/O image of remote I/O modules directly into the processor’s address space. It enables access to all SLC 5/01 compatible I/O modules (class 0 and 1) located in remote chassis or expansion racks, effectively bridging the remote backplane to the local controller. The 1747-ASB supports extended node operation on the RIO network, allowing up to 32 adapters on a single RIO link. Communications occur at standard RIO speeds of 57.6, 115.2, or 230.4 kilobits per second, and it draws power from the backplane with a 5V supply typically requiring about 375 mA. This module is used in distributed control architectures in SLC 500 systems to manage remote I/O efficiently; it is the dedicated interface between the master chassis and the I/O modules housed in remote racks.
