Allen-Bradley 1747-DPS2 RS232 DF1 Port Splitter
Allen-Bradley 1747-DPS2 RS232 DF1 Port Splitter
Description:
The Allen-Bradley 1747-DPS2 RS232 DF1 Port Splitter expands a single RS-232/DF1 full-duplex port on an SLC 500 controller into two independent serial channels, enabling two external devices to communicate with the PLC simultaneously without one device blocking the other. The DPS2 provides three main interfaces—a DF1 controller port, a network RS-232 port, and a dedicated Prog/HMI port—with an optional RS-485 terminal that is removable, and it requires external power to operate. Designed for classic Rockwell Automation controllers such as the SLC 5/03, 5/04, and 5/05 families, the DPS2 is now discontinued; installation guides describe compatible cabling and connector options (9-pin D-shell for DF1/RS232 ports and 8-pin mini-DIN for the HMI/programming port) and list example cables such as the 1747-CP3 for controller connections. In operation, the splitter buffers DF1 frames and forwards them to both ports, maintaining DF1 packet integrity while enabling dual-device communication on the same RS-232/DF1 channel, making it suitable for connecting an HMI and a secondary DF1 device to a single controller port.
