Description:

The Allen-Bradley 1747-SN Remote I/O Scanner Module is the SLC 500 controller’s gateway to remote I/O racks on the Remote I/O (RIO) network. It interfaces between a SLC 5/0x processor and distributed I/O devices, handling data exchange over the RIO link to read 32 input points and drive 32 output points via dedicated M0 and M1 data areas. The module is designed for use with SLC 5/02, 5/03, 5/04, and 5/05 controllers and is installed in a backplane slot within the SLC chassis. A termination resistor, included with the module, must be connected across line 1 and line 2 at each end of the RIO link to properly terminate the network. In typical installations, the 1747-SN communicates I/O changes to remote racks and provides status diagnostics to the processor, enabling centralized control of distributed sensors and actuators over a dedicated RIO path. This scanner forms part of legacy SLC-500 systems and is commonly paired with RIO cables and remote I/O adapters to connect multiple remote racks to a single processor, making it suitable for factories and automation lines where centralized processing needs to monitor and control dispersed I/O through the Rockwell Automation Remote I/O protocol.
