Description:

The Allen-Bradley 1756-IB16E Digital Input Module is a 16-channel DC input module for ControlLogix backplanes, designed to convert field signals into discrete inputs for the controller. It provides 16 inputs with a nominal 24 V DC operation and supports a 10–31.2 V DC input range, occupying a single backplane slot. Key electrical characteristics include an input impedance of 3.12 kΩ, an off-state voltage maximum of 5 V, and an on-state current range of 2–10 mA (with typical per-input current around 2 mA at 24 V); it also permits up to 250 mA of inrush current. The module's total backplane power is 0.56 W, with a maximum power dissipation of 5.1 W at 60 °C (140 °F). Isolation between inputs and the backplane is 250 V continuous (reinforced insulation), and there is no isolation between individual inputs. Change-of-state is software configurable, and cyclic update times range from 200 µs to 750 ms. Hardware delay is nominally 290 µs (max 1 ms) with optional input filtering selectable at 0, 1, or 2 ms. Wiring uses removable terminal blocks for 0.33–2.1 mm² (22–14 AWG) copper conductors. The module occupies one slot on the ControlLogix backplane and delivers input status to the controller in real time. Typical applications include reading digital signals from sensors, switches, and other field devices in industrial automation, packaging lines, and material handling systems.
