Description:

BB Electronics’ 9PCDT is a serial RS-232 Data Tap that plugs inline to monitor data as it travels between two RS-232 ports. The mainline connectors are a DB9 male (top) and a DB9 female (bottom), while the dedicated TAP/monitor port is a DB9 female, enabling a separate device to observe traffic without interrupting the link. DIP switches on the unit let you select which signals to monitor: Transmit Data and Receive Data can be watched individually or together, and you can configure the tap to observe either a DTE or DCE port. The device is passive and requires no power; connections remain transparent so data timing and signaling remain unchanged. Typical applications include debugging, capturing, and logging serial communications between two RS-232 devices, such as test equipment, modems, printers, or console devices, with the monitor data fed to a PC or analyzer via the TAP port. This model is part of B&B Electronics’ CDT Data Tap family (BB SmartWorx branding appears on many listings) and compatible accessories exist, including the 9PAMF6 DB9 Male to DB9 Female, 6 ft, and other adapters to tailor port configurations. The unit adheres to common EMI standards (FCC Part 15, CISPR/EN 55022 Class B emissions) and carries CE marking; like other data taps in the CDT series, it requires no external power and provides transparent, in-line data monitoring.
