B&R Industrial Automation 3IF672.9 Interface Module

The B&R 3IF672.9 Interface Module is a 2005-era communication module for B&R System 2005 that provides one RS-232 serial port and two CAN interfaces, enabling both PC-style serial control and CAN bus networking from a single module. It plugs into a CPU/interface slot on B&R backplanes (CP260, IF260, or IF060) and carries CE, UKCA, and UL/cULus E115267 certifications. The RS-232 interface uses a 9-pin D-sub connector with handshaking lines (DTR, DSR, RTS, CTS); the onboard UART is ST16C650 with a 32-byte TX/RX FIFO and baud rates up to 115.2 kBaud, with maximum RS-232 distances around 15 m at 19200 Baud. The two CAN interfaces are electrically isolated from the controller and network-capable, enabling CAN bus communication across devices in the same system. Power consumption is up to 1.8 W, and the module supports RS-232 data formats of 5–8 data bits with optional parity and 1–2 stop bits, making it a compact bridge between a B&R CPU and external serial or CAN devices.
