Description:

The OC-12 Systems Interface Device from Banner Engineering is an optical coupler module that interfaces the outputs of Banner amplified DC sensors and scanners to other logic systems, providing electrical isolation between sensor circuitry and downstream equipment such as PLCs, counters, or computers. Its input accepts 10–30 V DC and can connect directly to the PNP or NPN transistor outputs of Banner self-contained (amplified) DC sensors (including MULTI-BEAM, MAXI-BEAM, VALU-BEAM, MINI-BEAM, and ECONO-BEAM families) or to Banner MAXI-AMP CL3, CM3, and CR3 series modules and MICRO-AMP amplifiers and logic modules. The OC-12's output is a ground-isolated optically-coupled NPN current-sinking phototransistor rated for up to 50 mA at up to 30 V DC, with a response time under 100 microseconds and an on-state saturation voltage below 1 V, while off-state leakage current is under 10 microamps. Operating temperature is 0 to 50 C (32 to 122 F). The device uses Banner's standard black plastic octal-plug relay housing and is wired via the standard octal relay socket (OS-8); it can also serve as a drop-in replacement for the electromechanical relay in the MRB control chassis. This configuration supports interfacing between higher- and lower-voltage logic levels (e.g., a 24 V sensor output to a 5 V logic circuit) with ground isolation to reduce noise and improve safety.
