The Banner Engineering MICRO-AMP MA3-4 Modulated Photoelectric Amplifier is a compact, 10–30 VDC powered module that converts modulated light from Banner remote sensors into two clean, switchable outputs. It draws less than 20 mA (excluding load) and provides two open-collector outputs: MA3-4 uses complementary NPN transistors (one normally open and one normally closed) with up to 150 mA per output and a saturation voltage under 0.5 V at 10 mA; MA3-4P provides complementary PNP outputs with identical current capability and switching behavior. The module features a top-mounted gain control and a Banner Alignment Indicator Device (AID) LED to indicate signal strength, is epoxy-encapsulated in a VALOX housing with gold-flashed pins, and can connect via the optional RS8 socket or be mounted directly to a PCB. It operates from -40 to +70 C and supports sensor leads up to 30 ft (9 m). Response time is 1 ms ON/OFF with ~0.3 ms repeatability. This device belongs to Banner’s MICRO-AMP system and, when used with Banner remote sensors, yields the same optical response as larger CM Series modules; note that MA3-4 is obsolete and may have newer replacements in Banner’s current lineup.
