Banner Engineering SM51EB Scanner
Banner Engineering SM51EB Scanner
Description:
The Banner Engineering SM51EB is the emitter half of Banner’s SM51 Series opposed‑mode photoelectric sensor pair, designed for rugged industrial environments. It operates on 10–30 V DC and typically draws about 50 mA, housed in a die‑cast metal enclosure with a 1/2" wide profile and overall dimensions around 2.5" high by 0.5" wide by 2.5" deep. It emits an infrared beam with an effective diameter of 1/8" and a sensing range up to 25 feet when used with a matching SM51RB receiver. Because it is an emitter, it provides no electrical outputs on its own; it relies on the complementary receiver for signaling, with the SM51RB offering open‑collector outputs that can sink up to 250 mA. The SM51 Series is designed to be stacked side by side on 1/2" centers to form a “curtain of light” or support coding/through‑beam applications on conveyors and machinery. The operating temperature range is −40 to +70 °C, enabling operation in demanding environments. Typical use cases include reliable object or presence detection across gaps on production lines, packaging equipment, and other industrial automation setups, with straightforward integration to Banner MICRO‑AMP or MAXI‑AMP logic modules. This description covers the standard SM51EB emitter; pairing it with the SM51RB receiver completes the sensing arrangement for through‑beam interruption sensing.
