Banner Engineering's SM51RB LED Scanner is a DC-operated receiver in the rugged SM51 Series designed to pair with Banner emitters for reliable light-based sensing in harsh industrial environments, enabling curtain-of-light or code-reading configurations when multiple sensors are mounted side by side on 1/2" centers. It provides complementary open-collector NPN outputs—one normally open and one normally closed (the RB6 variant offers normally open only)—with reverse-polarity protection and up to 250 mA sinking per transistor; emitter current is typically <50 mA and receiver current ~25 mA, exclusive of the load. Built for tough conditions, the unit uses a die-cast metal housing with a stainless steel legend plate, is totally encapsulated, and rated for multiple NEMA environments (-40 to +70 °C) with a shielded 4-conductor, 6 ft cable exiting the rear; a red LED indicator at the rear lights when the receiver detects light signals, and sensitivity is adjustable via a single-turn control accessible after removing the nylon side screw. The SM51RB is part of Banner’s DC opposed-mode family, with a related SM51RB6 model that provides normally open output only.
