Beckhoff Automation KL5101 K-Bus Local Terminal
Beckhoff Automation KL5101 K-Bus Local Terminal
Description:
Beckhoff KL5101 is a one-channel incremental encoder interface terminal for the K-Bus, designed as a local terminal that connects an incremental encoder directly to a Beckhoff Bus Coupler or PLC in a motion-control network. It is powered from a 5 V DC supply and accepts encoder signals in differential RS-422 or TTL level formats, enabling reliable, high-speed position feedback up to 1 MHz per channel, compatible with a wide range of common incremental encoders. As part of Beckhoff's KL5xxx position-measurement family, the KL5101's channel is mapped in the bus coupler according to Beckhoff's standard terminal mapping, allowing straightforward configuration, flexible slot assignment, and diagnostic visibility within TwinCAT-based systems. Typical uses include providing high-precision position feedback in automation and motion-control systems that rely on incremental encoders, where direct encoder interfacing on the K-Bus provides fast, compact feedback without external translation hardware. Note that the KL5101 is a local K-Bus terminal intended solely for incremental encoder interfacing and does not provide motor-drive functionality.
