Description:
Beckhoff KL1408 is an EtherCAT Terminal that provides eight digital inputs for 24 V DC process signals. The inputs are positive switching (KL1408/KL1418 family) and employ a 1-wire connection per channel with a common 0 V reference on the power terminal, delivering a simple, reliable wiring scheme while keeping galvanic isolation from the EtherCAT bus. Each channel can detect a high (24 V) or low (0 V) state and the terminal transmits the corresponding binary state to the EtherCAT master; state changes propagate in roughly 3 ms, enabling responsive monitoring of sensors and switches within a moving process. As part of Beckhoff’s KL14x8 digital input family, the KL1408 integrates into a Beckhoff EtherCAT I/O system for scalable, real-time machine control. Typical applications include reading the status of pushbuttons, limit switches, proximity sensors, and other 24 V DC devices in automation tasks such as packaging lines, conveyors, and general manufacturing equipment. The eight independent inputs provide a compact, easy-to-wire solution for digital sensing, with robust isolation to protect the controller from process-side transients.
