Berthold Technologies SZ5-GHS-3171-1 Liquid Level Switch is a radiometric, non‑contact level detector that mounts on the exterior of a vessel and uses gamma radiation to sense liquid height across the vessel, triggering a high‑ or low‑level alarm when set points are reached. Because the measurement is non‑contact, there is no contact with the product, no wear, and minimal maintenance, making it suitable for storage tanks, bunkers, and process vessels such as reactors or vessels with agitators where conditions are harsh. The SZ5-GHS‑3171‑1 family includes variants such as the Ex‑rated SZ5-GHS‑3171‑1Gd, with explosion protection, and the SZ5‑GHS‑3171‑2 that uses a GM detector configuration. A water‑cooling accessory is available for SZ5‑GHS‑3171 and GHS‑3172‑1, featuring water connections of Ø 10 mm and a maximum pressure of 6 bar, to facilitate mounting in densely packed or temperature‑prone installations. Installation typically uses a PG16 cable gland and supports cable diameters of 5–8 mm.
