Bircher ESD3-04-115AC is a single‑channel safety switching device in the ESD3 family, designed to guard hazardous machine zones when used with Bircher safety mats and EsMatix components. It operates from a 115 VAC supply with automatic reset and provides one safety relay output rated at 1 A at up to 30 VAC, along with an auxiliary status relay to signal the controller about system state. The device supports two input terminals to connect multiple mats or edges, enabling coordinated monitoring of several hazard points. Intended for DIN rail mounting, it forms part of a certified safety system that, when paired with Bircher safety mats, edges, and control logic, supports Category 3 safety per EN ISO 13849-1. The status relay logic signals “system operative” by remaining closed, and opens either when a sensor is actuated or when a wiring fault is detected, providing a clear fault indication to the control system and helping prevent unsafe machine restart.
