The Moog Animatics SM1720D-PLS SmartMotor is an all-in-one, brushless servo system that integrates a NEMA 17 frame motor, encoder, drive electronics, controller, and IO in a single compact package. Rated for 145 watts of nominal continuous power, it delivers 0.24 N·m of continuous torque (2.08 in-lb) and up to 0.43 N·m of peak torque (3.82 in-lb), with a no-load speed of 7,900 RPM. It uses a 4,000 counts-per-rev encoder and has a winding resistance of 1.8 Ω, with a continuous current rating of 4.5 A. Footprint and weight are small for a smart motor: about 1.2 lb (0.55 kg) in a compact D-Style NEMA 17 housing, with a shaft diameter of 5.0 mm (0.197 in); rotor inertia is minimal for responsive motion, and radial/axial load ratings are 7 lb and 3 lb respectively. Connectivity is built around the Combitronic CAN network, allowing coexistence with CANopen or DeviceNet on the same bus for streamlined integration, reduced wiring, and simplified control in automation tasks.
