Description:

The Yaskawa Electric Corporation CDBR-4045D inverter brake dissipates regenerative energy generated during motor deceleration through a braking resistor, improving braking performance and protecting VFD drives from overvoltage. This panel-mount, air-cooled braking unit is designed for 380–460 VAC 3-phase systems and is commonly used with variable frequency drives in conveyors, cranes, hoists, elevators, machine tools, and heavy industrial equipment where fast deceleration and controlled stopping are required. The CDBR-4045D supports motors up to about 45 kW class, with a continuous current rating of ~18 A and a peak braking current around 60 A at a 10% duty cycle. It requires a minimum external braking resistor of ~12.8 ohms and carries an IP20 protection rating, making it suited for indoor industrial environments. Its primary function is to dissipate regenerative energy through braking resistance, enabling rapid stopping and energy management in high-inertia loads or frequent start-stop cycles. Mounting is panel-based, aligning with standard industrial enclosures, and it is commonly paired with legacy or upgraded braking networks. Replacements in the Yaskawa braking family include the CDBR-4030D and CDBR-4045, along with LKEB braking resistor units for similar applications. This unit is ideal for applications needing quick deceleration and controlled stopping, such as conveyors, cranes, hoists, and heavy machinery that rely on reliable braking during high-dynamic cycles.
